Looks decent, I see hardtail trail bikes with 29” rims do the same and they’re wider than the car.

One word of caution, I have owned like 5 different version of this bike rack, every one has scratched the hell out of my trunk

If you don’t want to use the rack, you can fit a BMX in the backseat of that car. Throw a blanket or a fitted sheet over the rear seats, Move the passenger seat forward, rear wheel in first, on the seat, front wheel on the floor (like the bike is in a Smith stall) you may have to fuck with the bars a bit to get it right but it saves the hassle of a rack.
