The set (RX-810) comes as a brake / shift lever, and then the caliper with hose already attached. For install you need to cut the shifter end of the hose to length then attach.
All good, the olive is already inside the shifter, but the barb is already attached to the too long hose and they don't supply a second barb for when you cut to length (it also seems that barb is plugged with resin – think the hose is prefilled, and this keeps mineral oil in?). See photo of end of hose.
Do I really need to buy a new barb to fit these? It's just annoying if so. Or am I supposed to remove the barb from the end and reuse (after drilling the plug out!?)? It's never been compressed so I'm assuming if I can get it out it'll still be brand new.
I guess almost everyone has to cut the hose to length, so you'd think Shimano would include everything you need.

Never reuse the barb. Use the length they give, or get a new barb if you need to cut. Yes it’s pre-bled, so filled with mineral oil. If you cut it you’ll need to bleed it probably.
Is it a new, boxed set? It should come with a spare barb
Spare barbs and olives are a necessity when fitting new hoses. If you cut carefully, you can avoid re-bleeding, but you have to be prepared to do so.
In an emergency-situation during the pandemic, when spare parts where not available, i once carefully cut a barb out of the hose using a box knife and reinstalled it. As long as you really, REALLY don’t cut into it. Not optimal, but it should hold up. Olive on the other hand, you need a new one.
