I had recently got both my new bike frame and the upper suspension fork powder coated. But they company I sent it too used a too strong, high temp masking tape and ended up ruining the upper fork.
I know the usual option here is to get a new one. But a full replacement is 800-900$ and a spare part/replacement is currently out of stuck until "some time next year."
Wasn't sure where to ask for help, so I'm posting to a few random places for ideas. Any advice on how I can get it repaired? Or at the very least how to avoid this for when I do get it replaced?

You had the stanchions powder coated? That’s not the correct coating. Either way, if they messed it up, they should either fix it or pay to rectify the situation.
depending on the type of fork, its rideable (maybe order new dust seals to hand on hand). more frequent servicing will be needed.
alternatively, you could remove and polish the stanchions – the black her looks like coloring, i think a good poliish/buff could work.
I’ve ridden downhill bikes with fucked stanchions before. no issues on the ride, but it’s uglier and needs more servicing as i said. that was on oil based forks though – air may be different entirely.
Manitou has the uppers available.
