Hey there. I have had this bike for a little while now. Sitting in the garage. Needing a fresh start. Can this bike be transformed into a touring type bike? What should be replaced and Updated on it to do so?
What does “touring” mean to you and how much money are you looking to spend?
The gearing you have is not good for steep climbing or steep descending. Body/arm/hand position is limited to one.

Yours is for riding to the coffee shop, or a few laps around the park. If you want a “road” bike for longer rides, you’d be better off getting a new/used one

Not really. It would be hard, pricey, and the end result would be mediocre. You can pretty easily get an old, cheap hybrid that can do much more without any modifications.
But to clarify things, what exactly are you looking for when you mention a “touring bike?” Usually this term refers to a bike that is designed to carry a bunch of camping gear and its used to travel long distances, possibly across continents.
