You know how life, work, and that other thing… responsibility… gets in the way? Yeah, some of you probably do. For the rest, I’m envious!
About 15 years ago I got all that in spades and stopped riding. Earlier this year I saw my bikes hanging in the garage and started getting that longing. Been hitting the trail near my house with a goal of 2 to 3 days a week since. Bought some lights so I can go at night if needed due to work schedules.
Swapped out most of the shimano Alivio components for XTR, put on some new tires, and been having a lot of fun… even if it is pretty much just a fire road.
The body hurts differently than it did in my 30’s, and I’m probably not as fast as I used to be, but the fun is the same.
Been thinking about a new bike, but this old Trek will do for now!

That bike brings back memories, specifically those Panaracer Fire XC tires! Man, everyone ran those tires back in the day.
Enjoy that steed and don’t let anyone tell you that you need the latest and greatest.
I loved my 4500! This must be one from around 1998-1999?
The livestrong bracelet is peak early-2000s trek. Love the bike, and love your attitude. Getting out there multiple times a week is a huge win.
Modern gravel bike!
