Had my bike at the shop a month ago, replaced the cassette and rear derailleur. About ten days afterward, it started to shift rear gears very unreliably. Past week, it has just been getting worse. My last ride was just 4km, during which it failed to shift up ~20% of the time, down ~50% of the time, and it randomly shifted up three times, down nine times, some of which were by 2 gears. Very uncomfortable to drive, and the downshifts make it very unsafe.
I wanna avoid going back to the shop because it's 10km away, and I don't feel like not having a bike while they work on it and possibly screw it up again.
What do I need to loosen or tighten or whatever in order to fix this?

  1. Was the chain and cassette just replaced, or did the hear cable and housings get done too?

  2. 1. Learn how to index the rear derailleur yourself: https://youtu.be/UkZxPIZ1ngY?si=btb_Ln0BkfZccYYS&t=410

    2. It’s sometimes needed to adjust the rear derailleur cable barrel adjuster a few rides after new cables/housing and/or rear derailleur is installed. That’s because the cut ends of the housing settle into the ferrules after you start riding, unless you’re super careful with the install details.

Personally, I cut the housing very square and almost never have to make any adjustments after my first test ride on new cable housing.
