I'm new to all of this.

I've tried removing the thru-axle and tightening it carefully (to the correct torque) but the wheel returns to the same position, I didn't really adjust anything at all once I'd removed the thru-axle though, so this removal and reinstall probably didn't actually accomplish anything.

I recently had the derailleur replaced after I mangled it stepping into the pedal after an accidental back pedal during (reckless, lesson-learned) downshifting. I can't recall if it was like this before I'd taken it in but the fact I noticed it almost right away afterwards tells me maybe it wasn't.

When the back wheel turns it doesn't appear to spinning in an off-kilter way, but rather it appears to run straight and sort of momentarily 'wobble' out and then back in, however the difference in the size of the gap between each side of the wheel and the frame remains consistent.

The bike is a 2025 Giant Talon 1 bought brand new just over a month ago.

Any ideas what's going on?

  1. UDH may be installed incorrectly. Might be worth bringing it back to the shop that did the work

i used to have this problem a lot and all i did was make the springs on the axel (assuming its one of those) make sure they arent getting squashed between the axel and the frame which if on one side and not the other naturally it would tilt the wheel… the other thing is let the bike rest on the axel before u tighten it even roll it a metre if u can and tighten it while holding the bike vertical

  3. The frame is almost certainly pretty damn straight. The shop can cross check your frame with a wheel known to be perfect. The wheel may have come out of dish due to your riding habits or assembly error, but it’s likely an easy fix for a competent shop.

Not knowing if it was like that before… ?

The shop would’ve adjusted new derailleur to the cassette, not the wheel centerline, so that’s unrelated… though you’d hope they’d notice this.

The rim/wheel is off center, not just the tire, right?

The brake/rotor still line up yes?

Did you remove/replace the cassette recently?

For a thru-axle setup, need to check:
    1. Proper derailleur hanger/mounting
    2. Wheel dish
    3. Rear triangle alignment
    4. Rear hub axle spacers/assembly
