Could the final stage of this year’s tour to France provide a dramatic twist? Traditionally, the race’s climax is a procession for the winning rider and his team through Paris, complete with a glass of champagne as sprinters do battle one last time to the Shanzaliz. Not this year, however. Inspired by the memorable Paris 2024 road races, race organizers have chosen to switch things up. The stage 21 route starting in Monlavville will not take in one, not two, but three climbs at the famous Monm Martra. With the final potentially decisive climb just 6 km from the finish, this could dramatically impact the overall outcome of the race. Well, how you ask? Rather than being a simple flat stage for the sprinters, the climbs and cobbles presented on the route will make an appetizing prospect for the classic specialist as well as those fighting for the general classification too. Even though normally not contested on the final stage, if the standings are not decided by then, this change could present us with a tantalizing prospect of the yellow jersey battle going right down to the wire.
