Part 2 of Kurt’s summer surprise trip for Darina: Helsinki (Finland) – Bergen (Norway).
For more details check out our blog entry:
This surprise trip started in Finland because it’s one of the few countries that Dorina hadn’t seen and it ends in Norway, one of Dorina’s favorite countries. And in between is Sweden. On the route from Stockholm to Urbro, there was even time for a pepy long stocking ice cream. Of course, look at the duty free. So, half the attraction of going over to uh Finland is the duty free bed of that place. There are trolley full of booze. My goodness. So, we’re leaving another beautiful campground by the beach. Sun is out now. All the traffic has to stop because doesn’t even say want a picnic spot in the shade. That’ll do. The kamu found us an old railway line long made last. Even found a little bit of forest hidden away from that bicycle track. It’ll do for a night. Good morning, Sweden. Heat. Heat. We’re again on a bicycle lane that could have been an old railway line. We found a castle, dinner, and a place for our tent. Now, we found this beautiful place to camp. The only thing is I discovered all sorts of carcasses here. We’ve got three rib cages. We’ve got what looks very much like the leg of a goat. Some more rib cages, but they’re a whole lot bigger. Backbone. And it goes on and on and on. Now, the question is, who would have killed these? Or what would have killed these? Are we in the hunting ground of some wild animal? And if so, what could that be? So, you didn’t hear any wild animals? No, nothing. Neither did I, actually. So, the mystery continues. Did you Google what wild animals there are some feral ants? This is not getting the way I wanted it to go. Take two. So, did you sleep? I slept like a baby. I heard you. Did you Google wild animals in Sweden? No, but I know there are bears and wolves out there. Really? Bears? Obviously not here. Well, something killed those animals down there. Mhm. Bears are vegetarians here, so it must be wolves. I got cherries in my luggage. Maybe we should eat the cherries. Save lives. Eat cherries. These signs were everywhere. So there you know what does lopeies mean? Oh, I bet it’s berries. Berries. You see it all along the road. Bet it’s berries. Could be lake of fish. Fish. Well, you see water everywhere. Let’s check it out. Lis to find out. Absolutely. I like a fish. L piece. Let’s have a look. We’ve been looking at these signs. Okay. Lope. Lope. Lope. Lope. And what is lis? Old figs. Old things. We don’t need leg. So maybe someone else need like a flea market. Yeah. A little bit like that. Okay. A garage sale. Garage sale. Garage sale. That’s the right word. Okay. Yeah. So no berries, no lollies. No lollies. No leg of fish. No. Nope. Nope. But you’re Swedish. Yeah, I’m from Norway. Oh, yeah. So, can you explain why the Norwegians are no longer the happiest people in the world? They are. They are. They’re just not letting on. We spent the day exploring the castle park with a great collection of traditional houses and a variety of exotic menu. Life is good. So stop skids object for boot mrail for budget galler. Oh the s gallers aren’t allowed in here. The E18 was never far away. This road connecting St. Petersburg with Helseni Turco Stockholm and Oslo before following the Norwegian coast south to Christian sand. Being on the same trajectory for most of our trip meant that we crisscrossed it often in Finland. We’re on it a few times in Sweden and next to it leaving Oslo. Now, while this is not the sexiest of bike lanes along this dual carriageway, it does keep us off the road beside the forest. Can let our minds wander. We don’t have to worry about getting run off the road. Spot the tourist. Now we’re looking for somewhere to camp. And this is the only track left or right from the road. It doesn’t have a letter box at the end and according to Google Earth doesn’t have a house or a barn. Well, Court is determined he’s not going to be found. No matter what you say, I’m camping here. We probably did 2 km off the road now at this stage. So, this will do in our wild flower garden. Sweden has the same vibe as Finland. Calm, quiet, and as flat as their waffles. Maybe it’s just me being Swiss that thinks, you know, some dramatic real mountain behind a village would add so much drama to the picture, so much excitement. Sweden runs on a simple formula. Red house, golden field, blue lake, medieval castle, repeat. Another child friendly destination. So, last few meters of Sweden. Are you happy or are you sad? I mean, Norway is my favorite country, so guess how I’m feeling. Norway, here we come.
