I'm building out a fast gravel bike on a cheap Chinese carbon frame. I'm wondering if this drivetrain setup will work:

Full Microshift Sword 2x groupset. Except at the rear, swap the Sword derailleur for a Shimano Cues 8020 11spd and run the Microshift 11-48t cassette from the Sword 1x setup; up front run 52/36 Aerozine 110bcd 4b asymmetric rings.

I've heard the Cues rear derailleur has the same cable pull as Sword stuff and works with a lower granny. Microshift says their front derailleur works with a 52t max chainring and can handle a 16t split. Theoretically this should give me a massive 626% range with the low end of the Sword 36×11/48 1x and the high end of… I don't know… A road bike from the early 2000s.

But I'm worried about chain wrap and chain line. Has anyone done something like this before or is there something I'm missing?

  1. Cues only works with the newer link glide cassettes and chains right? I’m not sure Sword is compatible with that. Microshift has great customer support and I’m sure they would provide info.
