Hi guys, been riding road bikes for 20 years but been keen to start riding fixed for about a year. Well today I paid 100gbp for this Charge Plug. My current road bike is a canyon aeroad which is carbon, so I cared about weight enough to want a lighter steel or Alu frame.
Anyway I met the seller, had a quick ride, felt it was too small, raised the saddle and bosh. Great, paid and rode off. It was only then I felt the rear wheel was not true. Sods law it felt fine when testing! Not a huge problem, but it just brings my upgrading plans forward. I have a carbon front wheel already, but im looking for a tri spoke mag on the cheap side that I can flip flop. Rim brake ideally but not essential obviously because the whole point is fixed so in the UK I'll probably just run a front brake, would be nice to have the flexibility though. Suggestions and recs please!

Magnesium tri spokes are usually awful quality and very heavy, would definitely not recommend one of those… I also think they look pretty tacky.
I would recommend you just get a complete fixed gear wheelset with Novatec hubs off AliExpress in the depth of your liking. Will also look nicer if the wheels are matching front/back.
If you don’t want Ali Carbon, look at the Miche X-Press wheelset, cheap, alloy and has brake surfaces.
Wow, these are so rare 😳 congrats on having one, mate, especially since it looks like it’s having most of the original parts. Charge Plug Racer, I ride one, too. 52/15, lost the original seat, the bars, that long stem and it came with a different front wheel but it’s a tough and VERY nicely balanced city bike. A bit on the heavy side for some but not an issue for me, got mine down to 9 kg. Tough Japanese steel and it has a subtly aggressive geometry.
My suggestion? Keep those wheels, man, get the rear one true (maybe it’s just a few spokes or the hub bearing needs replacing) and just keep it. Two good looking original wheels are a cool thing to have. Otherwise whatever floats your boat.
May you ride for many miles 🙂
Sorry not sorry, but asking where to get what by a brand you think you want is more than likely not a good idea. Aye tho, nbd that’s wsup I guess cause the picture looks oddly weird.
