This is my first winter with a fat bike and snow has come early to southern Ontario! Got about 21cm overnight. My friend has a fat tire rack and we got to the trail (about 40 minute drive) and the bikes had a little slush on them but mostly fine. After the ride we had that same 40 minute drive home through even more snow and slush and slop on the roads. No surprise, our bikes were covered in brown ice/frozen slush. Easy to hose off at home, but if the conditions had been this way on the way to the trail I would have been hard pressed to get the inch of caked ice off the derailleur and cassette. Also pretty sure that road salt is going to be shitty on the components.
So, what does everyone do in conditions like this? Do you just put the bike inside your vehicle? Wrap the bike(s) on the rack or cover with something that won’t blow off? Other?
