    These are fucked in many ways. It’s an easy fix if you know what to do but would recommend you take to a bike shop.

  2. looks like the pads are worn down and need replacing. Also could be that you need the thicker spacers for the pad on the inside of the brake not the outside.

    Koolstop salmons are expensive but phenomenal pads.

    hard to tell from the picture but the rim wall braking surface looks quite worn. Maybe have this checked as that failing when you’re riding is really nasty.

  3. The noodle (bendy j shaped metal bit) is touching the other brake arm. There is no cable for the brakes to travel along. When you pull your brake lever I’d wager there is no movement.

    This is likely because your brake pads are completely worn out. Hard to tell from the photo but that’s what I’m seeing.

    Is also replace that brake cable and trim it down to an appropriate size, there is far more extra there than you need. It’s also looking pretty chewed up.

  4. As mentioned, check that the pads are not too worn.
    Also the brake pads have spacers you can move to adjust the distance from the rim. Your brake arms should be moved further out, If the smallest spacers are used on the inside, you typically end up with the situation seen on your bike.

    Brake pads are definitely dead. And while it’s hard to tell from the photo, that rim may be concave as well. Rims on bikes with rim brakes are “disposable” as they wear down over time due to abrasion from pads and road grit. If you lay a ruler flat on the braking surface and can see light under it, you probably need a new wheel too 

  6. Brake pads look completely worn out and would need to be replaced. While your at it, I would also change the brake cable as well

  7. You’re either missing hardware or the hardware (cup and cone washers) on the brake pads were installed out of order. Take it to a shop, it’s a very fast fix that you can screw up at home without a little practice.

  8. Try the longest pads that will fit into your braking mechanism. Keep them close and tight with extra washers.

    Start by changing pad.
    You will need to change the cable too, cause you will want more wire, and your wire seems a little out.
    Then you can cut extra wire and put a cap.
    Adjust break with the screew (try to get the wheel in the center of the 2 pad).
    Then finally, you can, for an extra little, mostly placebo effect, power brake, wash your rim.
