I’ve tried to buy a custom made aluminium frame, but the manufacturer went AWOL on me after three months of talking out the details.
I’ve looked for alternatives and scored this carbon frame in my size for cheap enough (around $500) with thru axle and disc brakes.
Bought new wheels (I have unused wheel made on Surly New Hub as a wall ornament now, yay), gutted my previous bike and here we are.
50×17 ratio, whole setup weighs around 8.5 kilograms (down from 12.2 kg on steel).
Thanks to the winter and snow I didn’t use it properly outside yet, but after 30 kms made I already love how responsive and easy to ride that bike is. And it’s so comfortable on a trainer that I’m finding new watts just laying around.
All that’s left is to buy a proper fitting tires (25 instead of 28) and I’m good to go for many seasons to come.
