UCI just dropped a bomb on us: UCI has officially allowed 32-inch wheels for mountain-bike XC (XCO) racing starting 2026.

This means those 32" prototypes we’ve seen from brands like BMC and Stoll Bikes might actually hit the start line sooner than we thought.

Why this matters: 32-inch wheels potentially deliver smoother rollover, better momentum over rough terrain, and more stability, though it won’t be magic for everyone, especially on tight, technical courses.

Curious:

Do you think 32" wheels will give a real advantage, or just be a novelty for tall riders and wide-open courses?

Would you ever consider upgrading to 32" for your own XC bike?

  1. I personally can’t wait to buy the cheap second hand wheels off people who think they need to buy everything the pros ride. But on topic, time will tell. There’s always hype with novelty and it takes a while to really evaluate how much of an inpact it has.

As a giraffe, I am thrilled by the prospect of 32″ wheels becoming embraced by major brands and being more readily available.

  3. finally the right wheel size who are 5’4″ or lower. Thank you.

In case you didnt notice, I am being sarcastic.

Mainstream-ish 32″ wheels will be absolutely amazing for tall riders on XL-XXL+ size frames, definitely no gimmick or just a novelty for them.

Aaaand of course the industry is gonna try to push this on everything all the way down to medium and small size bikes and it’ll be completely ridiculous lol and good parts will be wasted.
