A cycle ride from Chaumont to Chambord and back. Perhaps a little further than I’m fit enough for!

Hello from the sunny south of France and welcome to my latest video. In this video I stopped for a couple of days at uh Shom on Lawir and cycled to Shambort which is a palace really around the chatau and it’s the residence of the French president in the country. Uh I hope you enjoy the video. Thank you. Well, today I’m stopping in Shom and having a ride along the uh Noir Aello. It actually feels quite cold today. The forecast is it’s not going to get more than about 23° centigrade, which is uh it’s well, it’s it’s a lovely temperature, but it’s a lot colder than I’ve been used to. Well, so far this road, this route has been a mixture of tarmac, this sort of gravel. It’s twisting back and forth. So, every junction you have to stop and work out which way you’re going. And then there’s some like this that have absolutely no signs. So I don’t know where I’m going. So much of France is so old. This is just sort of left here in the middle of a fairly modern street. The old doorway. I have no idea whether I’m on the right road or not. Road. It says you’re not allowed to ride. You have to push. But it doesn’t say whether I’m on the right road. One of the great bits about cycling is if you see something, you can just stop. This is about 100 meters away from the road. You don’t have to worry about finding somewhere to park cuz you just wheel your bike and have a look. I presume once upon a time this was to help control river traffic, but I don’t know. It’s obviously been modified. It looks like there’s a bread oven inside. In fact, the way that’s shaped, it’s unusual shape. I don’t know. No, not the faintest idea what it is then. Lime kilm. No, it’s not. I thought it was a castle to begin with, but I don’t think it is. If you got any idea, leave a comment. And there’s this just sort of tucked away. How many of them are there that you never see in a fairly modern street just by the museum of ancient tools and popular art and down the road from that archway. Well, I found my way back to the route somehow or other basically by looking at the satnav and then trying to work out how to get closer to the river. I haven’t seen the river though, but uh I was just cycling along a back road. Saw the sign that said turn left and someone was just opening his shutters and he saw me went left. So, a gosh. And uh here I am on the right track. I think 8 km away from Dwah. I think I’m getting closer to the center now. And there is actually I can see the river at last right by this bridge. It effectively says between the 15th 17th of June the bombardments of the enemy caused the death of around 20 civilian casualties. And then on the 14th of June the Americans bombarded causing 27 civilian casualties and 15 injured. And isn’t this good? Here’s a tool station for bikes with lots of different tools in it and somewhere to hang your bike. And on my front uh my front brake is rubbing a bit so I will adjust it. I’ve just entered the park the shaman board which is a palace. What you doing now? The French president’s summer residence. And it’s still 3 km to go even when you got this far. That is the shadow of Shamort. 44 km. I think it was 46. Can’t remember. Anyway, turning around to go again now. A bit closer now. But of course, it’s crowded as you can see. And I’ve got to work out how on earth to get out of here cuz I came in through a bit. I probably wasn’t supposed to. [Music] I think about 20 minutes of other human beings is enough for me. I’m back in what I assume is the royal hunting forest. There’s been plenty of evidence of the wild boier where they’ve nosed up the soil. Not this bit. This bit suffered from by looks of it. Some strong winds. I’m just about back in now. I think I may have been a little too enthusiastic. I’ve done 80 kilometers so far, 50 miles, and I’ve not been on the bike for months. So, I’m uh not really fit for this. But I think there’s only about another 5 miles to go when I’m home. Less than that, 5 and 1 half kilometers. So, I should be able to manage that. It’s hard work though. My legs are tired. Well, I hope you enjoyed that video. See you again next week for another episode. Bye-bye.
