Nylon (?) air spring end cap is stripping instead of turning. I don’t want to destroy it obviously, but I am at a loss for how to get it off. It’s a Manitou R7 Pro fork. I have the right size wrench (22mm) and am following the service guide to adjust travel. Problem may be caused by accidentally turning it the wrong way very slightly and thereby over-tightening it just a tad. The wrench did not slip until I corrected myself and tried turning it the right way (counter-clockwise). It has not budged at all in the right direction. Any tips on turning a soft nut with a thin profile and a thin coating of suspension fluid which has been over tightened a Nm or two

Flat ground 6 sided socket
Are you using the open or closed side of the wrench? The closed side will push on all 6 sides of the nut at once. If that doesn’t work, you might have to destroy it and then replace it.

Use a 22mm O2 sensor socket. It may work
I’ve used Knipex pliers wrenches to good success on similar nuts
If you can wait, buy some of these: https://www.lunarbikes.com/tools.htm. I have a set for a whole bunch of forks. They’re great, they make full contact with the fork cap and move everything at once. You should be able to slide it over the end of the air shaft. I fucked up way too many fork caps before buying these.
