Hi everyone, I have a mini velo and want to convert it to a single speed, it has 20” 451 wheels, I want to ditch the gears as I’m currently riding around on 46:13 which is okay mainly on flat riding but as I want to commute with it to work (has a few big hills), what would be a good gear ratio?
My old fixie was on 700c wheels with 48:17. As I’ve got smaller wheels, how would a 2.85 (46:16) ratio feel? it wouldn’t pedal the same as the fixie would it, what I’ve read is that smaller wheels make it easier to pedal, does that mean I can go to a 46:15 (3.067)?
