I got a new-to-me raleigh capri bike from a coop recently, approximately from the 1980s?
The wheels are mismatched and the brake pads are worn, so i think i’ll replace them. Should i do it myself or bring to a bike shop? Im scared that they’ll find it weird that im bringing in a shitty/old bike or chastise me somehow. Is there anything else i should do?
I’m a student so im trying to save as much money as i can, while also having a safe bike to ride.

Brake pads are pretty easy. Probably a video showing how. You may need to open the calipers a bit to make room for new pads.
Parktools has videos that will show you how to change the brake pads. It’s pretty simple with rim brakes.
If the tires are worn, I would consider new tires but the coop may have already replaced them.
I wouldn’t worry about the tire mismatch, after all you’re balling on a budget and just want something that works, safely. Brake pads are very easy to replace and very cheap. Watch a Park Tools video explaining it, and you will find that it’s pretty easy.
