Trying to upgrade my 2021 marin san quentin 1 to a new suntour fork (left). The marin website says it has a tapered headset, but the steerer on the old fork is tapered. Wtf is this?
Left is tapered right is straight… not compatible without an adapter… which is wouldn’t recommend
Virtike on
Old fork has a 1-1/8″ to 1.5″ crown race reducer on it. New fork needs that bearing removed and a 1.5″ lower crown race installed (presuming your bike’s existing headset uses cartridge bearings).
Also, fork on left appears to be for a 29″ wheel, whereas your bike/original fork are 27.5″. Steerer is also significantly shorter, hopefully you’ll have enough to safely clamp the stem to.
