I found this Scott Scale 2014 on local online second hand marketplace and it had broken fork, broken rear wheel and super used stuff remained on it. Sanded the frame then polished to shine and recently Silicon (SiO2) coated the raw aluminium. So far had it for about two years and used it in Finnish winter as commuter as well. Ridden this totally about 5000km.
Most parts are either from original bike or second hand sourced. But there was some good investment in some new parts as the second hand market for parts is not particularly large here.
It has rather low gears now, and generally doesn’t go too fast (my usual average with this is 21kph)
Tires are fast rolling and comfy, but they are not durable and not good puncture protection. Set as tubeless it’s usually fine, but I think I have 5 plugs in those.
Chain comes waxed from some german brand, not much experience with this stuff yet.
Rear light is from aliexpress it has shock sensors to shine brighter, also the garmin and front light mount. The front light is also garmin mount but I put it shining to floor aggressively as it’s too bright. The toolbox is also from aliexpress.
The brake mounts have been the worst part of this, as the pads wear, there is no good way of readjusting them without using washers.
Recently drilled the internal cable routing for shifting so I could run full covered cable there as previously the exposed part of shift cable on bb was having really bad time in winter.
The mudguards and rack are from Cube, but two different generations so I had to make it work by drilling new holes, etc.

Helsinki Central Park? (Wanna hit a ride?)
Nice. I first thought you have a crack in the last image, but since you sanded and coated it you would have noticed. Is that the coating or what is the line coming towards the cable hole?
Super tight!
My one bike I regret selling was a giant xtc 29 alloy that had a carbon fork and nice wheels. It was the perfect extra mtb, although my extra mtbs now are rigid 26 GTs so can’t complain 🍕
How does that ride with drop bars?
I have a 2014 Specialized Stumpjumper that I’ve considered putting drops on, so I’m curious!
This looks really good! I’m glad you could find a way to repurpose an old bike. I have a similar build using an older carbon hardtail frame from 2012
