Sorry if this is a dumb question but I’m new to owning a bike rack.
Are either or both of these methods OK in terms of mounting the bike to the rack? I circled where the ‘cradle’ touches the bike frame in each photo.
Obviously one method uses the top bar but the bike is very un-level.
The other method has the bike level but uses a different tube for mounting, which means the right-angle cradle doesn’t necessary stay in the corner of the frame as I assume it’s designed to?
Or is the only / best option to get a tube top adapter between the seat post and handle bar?

Dude not to be that guy but I bought one of these style racks and immediately returned it once I was in your predicament and got a cheap hitch mounted platform rack. If you have the trailer hitch installed I’d go that route I’m so happy I did.

Appreciate the responses so far and I get what you’re saying but it’s too late for me to return it. Those platform racks would also cost more than all my cheap bikes combined 🤣
Joining this conversation. I have a Thule 4 bike rack similar to this. Have owned for years. While fitting the MTB might not be ideal I can get it on there like in photo 1. Any detriment to the bike doing this?
You can get a false top tupe that clips around your stem and your seat post, and will allow the bike to hang level.
