Phil Wood Hub Bearings

I recently had the bearings replaced by a LBS in a 70s era wheel set with Phil Wood hubs. I was touching up the trueing of the front wheel by pushing on the rim (gently) with the axle end on the floor. The entire bearing and axle assembly pushed through the hub body. I contacted the shop that did the bearing replacement. I was told the hub is centered between the dropouts. Is this correct? TIA
