  1. I think it looks exactly the right size.

Ride it for 1 hour and see if her back feels stretched.

If it does, riser bars and/or seat forward.

  2. Looks like her leg is completely straight kn the second photo, almost like it’s locked. That means the seat is too high and she will get knee pain.

But other than that, I think it’s the right bike. The seat might need to come a touch forward to get the hips over the crank, but those are all micro adjustments you make after you have the right bike.

  3. Seat appears to high. Should still be a little bend in the knee at the bottom of the pedal stroke.

It might be just slightly too big. The seat is definitely too high though.

You could try one size down and compare for personal preference.

To me that bike looks slightly too large. Stem seems to be slammed and seat slightly too high, yet the seat is still lower than bars. Also the fit seems slightly too long.

Looks too big. That is accentuated by the slack head tube angle. Look at the distance of her knee to the bar and her chest to where the tire touches the ground. One thing about cornering is you need to get some weight on the front tire so you don’t slide out. It’s going to be tough for her to do that because it’s so far out.

  7. Needs some tweaks, but looks good. Bars are too wide, seat should come down and probably forward. Exciting! I’m a short female always finding myself between sizes, but this frame looks great.

  8. The seat is a bit high as others have pointed out.

From the perspective of a modern trail bike a reach of 425 sounds pretty good for a height of 160 and it looks like it fits ok for trail riding / “real” mountain biking.

If it’s going to be used more for flat riding / easier terrain a smaller bike will feel less sluggish and will turn better, be more maneuverable. I have a trail bike that fits me and a hardtail that is a little too small. I actually prefer the less aggressive and shorter wheelbase hardtail for mellower riding, it is less cumbersome.

Has she been able to try the alloy XS?

I would suggest also trying a few other mtbs / other brands / visit anther shop just to see how she thinks they fit so you can compare reach and stack and wheelbase numbers on all of them.

  9. Ask to have the suspension setup correctly next time. With proper sag the bars will come down quite a bit and the bike will feel different, regardless of seat height and frame length.
