




I unfortunately damaged the downtube on my Crust Florida Man (XL-60). I had it repaired by Mr John Fitzgerald over at Fitz Cyclez (side note… I've had a frame built by him so I already had a working relationship so he graciously agreed to help me out. I don't think he does this sort of work regularly). Being as the frame is on the larger side, I decided to bump the downtube size from a 31.8 and 9/6/9 to a 34.9 and 8/5/8 wall thickness. So larger diameter and thinner walls. Hit it with some clear coat and off we go.
I had it built up with 55mm knobbies but when i rebuilt it im resigning it to wandering road+ rides, coffee runs, and commuter duty (20 ish miles a day).

Crankset – SRAM SH-Red GXP 170 Wolf Tooth 110x42t
Cog – White industry 17t
Wheels – Surly Ultra New 32x3x Sapim Race Velocity Cliffhanger 650b
Tires- RH Switchback Hill 650×48 Endurance tubeless
Fenders –
Bag – FOG City rear and Switft Zeitgeist up front
First ride was this morning and im beyond happy with the result. Hard to tell if the tube diameter change is placebo or real as its been over a year since Ive ridden this bike and there were lots of changes in the build but eh…. it feels amazing so I suppose it doesn't matter much.

Looks great. How much does a service like that cost?
I don’t see a lot of setback seatposts for this kind of build. What drove that choice? Are you quite tall? I think it would cost me in pedal efficiency if I were further back, but I’m also pretty average height for my frames I think.
