Built for my Dad's 60th back in March with comfort and a very long back in mind. I picked it up because it was a huge frame and he's about 6' 4", but it ended up being incredibly light and really lovely to ride. I was pleased, he was pleased.

Mostly poached, on sale, and affordable parts.

Bottom bracket was too seized for me to handle and one LBS told me to just bin the whole frame. A different, very kind LBS (Norwich Fettle) unsuccessfully tried using a big old scaff pole for leverage, then resorted to cutting the BB out. A third, also very kind LBS (August Cycles) replaced the pannier attachment point for me. Very much appreciated on both counts and lovely work.

I nicked the Exage wheels from a pink Giant Terrago I also shared here recently, as the originals and the replacements I'd picked up on ebay were dunzo. As with the Terrago, the basket is an old steel shopping basket dug out of a skip and cut to size.

Note: I did fix the gear cable/fender strut over/under – realised before gifting but after taking the piccies, so here we are. Don't shame me too hard.

  1. Usually I see bikes too big for their riders…. You should keep your eye out for a frame in the next size up. Bike is great otherwise.

Nice. I’ve owned many bikes in my day but that exact model, year and color Trek was the one and only bike I’ve ever bought new off the rack. My original is long gone but I have picked up an identical frame that’s hanging in my shed waiting to get built up.

  3. Oh dude that is almost the perfect bike! It’s just a bit big for me 😉

Seriously though those handlebars, that frame, fender’s, all so good for a trusty utility bike. You could parachute into France on that.

  4. Love this! Also thanks for the inspo to cut down a shopping basket :)) I have the exact same one and just cut it down
