    Did you know two European countries almost went to war because of a name.
    I’m sure you are aware of the great Macedonian Empire and its even greater emperor Alexander the GOAT. Greece is very proud of this history. So when Yugoslavia collapsed and a new country called Macedonia was formed Greece claimed this country was trying to steal its history.
    In 2008 Greece even stopped NATO from inviting Macedonia. Macedonia responded by erecting a massive statue of Alexander the Great in its capital.
    however this issue was finally resolved when Macedonia changed its name in 2019.

      If Alexander and Macedonain empire weren't famous, thay will do anything to prove that Macedonian and Greece are different. Even Demosthenes several time have mention about non-Helenic origin of the Macedonains ( he called Macedonians as barbarians) but Greece's are silent about that.

      Macedonians are not Greek, Macedonian is a different ethnicity that claims some things from ancient Macedonia and our Slavic forefathers. Alexander the Great was Macedonian, not Greek. Some say he spoke Greek but his first language was Macedonian, he spoke many other languages such as Persian and only moved to the Greek language after it was seen as β€œadvantageous” the city of Macedonia was located in the area of north Macedonia, the Macedonians invaded Greece, they claimed it, the Slavic forefathers reshaped the ethnicity, the Greeks tried to claim Macedonian heritage, Yugoslavia formed with Macedonian culture, Serbian culture, and Croatian culture, Macedonia left Yugoslavia and reclaimed their name (in Yugoslavia that region was known as Macedonia), the Greeks got mad, they began an invasion of Macedonia, claimed a small bit of territory, ethnically cleansed that territory, claimed it as their own, refused to let Macedonia join NATO until they changed their name, that is the correct order. Moral of the story: Don’t trust the Greeks

      The interesting part is that before the Macedonian empire, Macedonia was a small state OUTSIDE OF GREECE, and then Alexander beat the living shit out of the Greeks armies and now they are saying that Alexander is greek. That is just false.
