I found this Schwinn Le Tour 2 at a local place for $150. That seems a bit high. I expect it will need cables, tires and tubes, and other maintenance. Would this be a good buy? More of a hobby purchase than because I need the bike. Let me know what you guys think about the bike, and what would be a fair price to offer for it. Thanks!

  1. If everything is in good working order that isn’t a bad price. If it needs as much work as you think, I’d definitely try to get them down under $100 or so.

Looks like a pretty tall frame, though, so unless you’re a pretty tall guy I doubt it would fit you.

That is one big bike. You’d have to be 1.85m and taller. That’s over 5 fleat in freedom units.

Second, steel frame, steel wheels. That’s indestructible.

That owner really is not tall enough for it, seat is canted waaay too much forward. Not good compensation.

About your question, things to refresh over time is chain, bar tape, tyres and break pads.

Also, it’s bottom tube shifters, but moved up. Not cool spot. That alone will teach you all about cycling and how to shift properly, but overall is kinda like giving old Ferrari to new driver.

It’s very much cool, but it will be pain in ass. And you’ll love it.

But, seriously, check the bike size properly. Don’t get it if it’s too big for you.

  3. The leTour is a very common model, it wasn’t bad for the time but, it wasn’t really good, either. They were much better a decade later, though, in the mid eighties.

$150 is pretty high for this bike. I could maybe see it if it were in incredible condition, and fully refurbished. But if it needs any work then no, far too expensive. You can almost certainly find a better bicycle for less.
