Looks like a solid entry level bike, but at $629 you’re not that far off from something like a Rocky Mountain Growler, Specialized Rock hopper, or Polygon Xtrada. I would compare the geometry and components of the Nishiki to some of these more premium options and make sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.
If the Nishiki was $300-400 I would say go for it, but at that price I think you could do better. If you’re willing to go used, then you could get something really nice for the same or less.
Right off the bat, I can say that you’ll probably at least want to budget for a better fork if you go with the Nishiki.
*Edit – I just looked this up, it’s not a bad bike, but most of the components are pretty, meh. The Microshift groupset is pretty low end, looks maybe like a cheapened Acolyte RD, but they don’t specify if it’s even the clutched version. The hydraulic brakes are off-brand, it doesn’t specify but I assume that’s an XCM coil fork, and it’s an outdated 10x135mm QR frame. I think you could find something better for your money.
I highly advise against getting a box store bike like this dicks branded one. Especially one that doesn’t have sizing options. There are plenty of way better option on marketplace. Trek even has some roscoes on sale rn for that price.
Personally for that price range I’d look to trek marlin and specialized rockhopper. You will have a brand that delivers in terms of reliability and availability if you need replacement and future proofing. I went with GT aggressor for my first “real” bike and what a mistake that was.
It looks good on paper, and that was probably deliberately designed.
It has a low-end coil fork, i believe with no meaningful damping. That alone is disqualifying. You have other good recommendations here.
Look at Giants website, you can get an entry level full suspension bike for around 800 on clearance. If you start with hardtail you’re going to want to upgrade soon. Might as well get what you want the first time around
Voodoo Bizango
You can get a hardtail from Cannondale, Trek or Specialized etc for around the same price. I got a Cannondale Trail 2 for $799 not long ago.
Go to your local bike shop. They’ll have better options for your budget and people who actually ride can advise you. I started a little over a year ago, and love it.
