Shock came on a new bike in June. Service interval is 100 hours. It was ridden about 80 hours then got the 100 service in early September, then was ridden about 60 hours until mid-October, and now I'm noticing this wear.
Pretty disappointed because the price of this shock and how I serviced it before recommended. It was ridden in some muddy-ish conditions, but was frequently cleaned and I'm certain I didn't go over the service intervals.

What frame? This is usually caused by either running it dry or a frame out of alignment putting side loads on the shock. Bonus points for a yoke style mount that puts on extra side loads.
Wiping them down post ride, with a clean rag, helps a lot.
Also, if you ride in really dry dusty or muddy conditions you can accelerate the lower service time.
Also, are you using the right oil?
I had the same issue with a coil shock on my Propain Tyee. It sarted leaking after 6 months of riding. The suspension service told me it’s a typical Propain rear frame problem. Too many lateral forces damaging the damper shaft. I switched to a Vivid Air and sold my coil. Since then had no problems so far. The tiny little cratches on your photo look similar to my old problem. Maybe that’s the same issue. I would take to a skilled suspension service near you and show them your problem.
