Hello everyone! In my garage is an old mountain bike that was not ridden very hard during it's life. I want to give it some fun times, let it relive it's glory days.
I have already found some good condition wheels to fit disc brakes. The frame and fork have unthreaded mount holes, and I'm under the impression I'll need an adapter for brake calipers, right? I was thinking of getting the Shimano M201 brakes.
I am also looking for help choosing a new cassette. Should I switch to a 1x system? Or stick with my 3×9? Tbh I never got it shifting perfectly.
What other bits should I look for? Will it be impossible to find anything in particular?

Just to clarify, im looking for help learning what parts actually fit my bike, and help choosing parts based on that.
Not worth it. Buy a modern bike- it’ll blow your mind.
The mounts are probably IS mounts.
IS to Post mount adapters are widely available.
At that point any hydraulic brake will fit. You might have to get creative with some zipties to hold the hose.
Keep it as is and ride it. Start saving for a newer bike in the future.
