π‘ About Le Somail & the Canal du Midi
Le Somail is one of the most picturesque stops along the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the 17th century to link the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. This charming hamlet is known for its stone bridge, historic inns, antique bookshops, and vibrant summer evenings where visitors enjoy the unique atmosphere by the water.
The surrounding Minervois region is famous for its vineyards, producing some of the best wines of the Languedoc. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings, boat trips along the canal, cycling between villages, and exploring the cultural treasures of the Aude, from medieval Carcassonne to the Mediterranean coast.

So if you look at this, this is a bookshelf. And originally I had the thought to knock the wall down and make a L behind their toilet. But we had another bookshelf here. And we knocked this wall out. And this wall is thick, so we knocked it through. And through here was the garage, but we had our own pet um uh uh carpenter. And he was stuck here during COVID for a year. So we thought, well, better put him to work. And he’s a really excellent guy. So this is all solid oak from France. And uh uh so he made this beautiful sweeping stair stairway. Wide. Yeah. But wide so that you know the queen can come or whatever you you know, whatever. Um, and anyway, you wouldn’t want to come up a stairway like this and have to be narrow, otherwise it’s not nice. But it comes to this room, which definitely wasn’t there before. This is what we call the Gona.
