A RIDING DUO LIKE NO OTHER

27.5” wheels, 63.5 degree head angle, 200 millimetres of travel—sounds like a downhill bike, right? Well, what about a 1940-millimetre wheelbase with cranksets, handlebars, and seats? Yes, that’s plurals.

Welcome to the world of tandem with Jackson and Rose Green!

Jackson: My girlfriend at the time, now wife wanted toride the Around The Lake Taupo – cycle race which is a famous race, here in New Zealand. She didn’t want to ride the whole way by herself she wanted some help to pull her around. We were poor students at the time couldn’t afford anything flash but we got an old Burly Rock and Roll touring never looked back from
there really. We decided we needed a full suspension bike but we were still poor students and couldn’t afford one they were like $7,000, without
even a shock, in New Zealand at the time so I costed it all up and decided I could
buy everything I needed to make my own one and it only be about $4,000 I hadn’t done anything like that before. I had never welded anything I braised something in metal work, way
back at the start of high school but didn’t really know what I was doing at
all, but spent some money and just mucked around in the shed for a while and
eventually learn’t how to do it. The biggest crash was probably about eight years ago, we had complete brake failure. Jackson was swearing and saying that we were going to die. Somehow I just unclipped and just pushed myself off the back as we were hurtling down this gravel road. flipped, flew down the bank, and Jackson
looked up and thought where on earth is rose? Getting it leant from one side to
the other It’s so stable there’s so much weight behind it that it’s like steering a superbike You’ve gotta really push hard on the handlebars to counter-steer. The wheelbase is so long, that anytime you time you go over a lump if you’re not carrying
lots and lots of speed, so you can jump it you’ll end up risking hitting your
pedals. ROSE: Sitting on the back of the tandem you’ve got to be quite neutral, you can’t
lean to the left or right it’s a bit like being a pillion on the back of a
motorbike, you don’t throw your weight around too much.

  1. I had three road tandems and One mountain tandem with downhill forks and full suspension. Bought it used and much better to ride off-road. These guys are great.

  2. Was a little apprehensive when buying this with the few negative reviews on here, but this was exactly the kind of bike I was looking for. https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkxn_jUDSlprMIeubd9rHdEAnv59nKfjcKv I plan to ride it on paved roadways and trails, and wanted a "Grocery Getter" so to speak. After receiving it (without any damage), I had it out of the box, and fully assembled in about 30 minutes. I did not have to look at the manual, and I'm glad because I did look at it after I got it together, and it looks like it's a manual for several different styles. I did have to adjust the breaks and gear shifters, but that's been my experience with every bike I've owned. There was one review in particular that made me nervous, saying it was not meant for someone 6'4", it was too short. Well I'm 6'5" (230lbs) with a 36" inseam, and can tell you this bike fits perfectly, granted the seat is in it's highest safe position. I've only had it for 3 days so far, and if things change I will update my review, but I put 26 miles on it so far, and it rides like a dream. Very comfortable seating position. The front suspension is good for the occasional rock or bump you hit on asphalt, but this bike is not made to be taken off road, and I'm OK with that. I was particularly happy to see the wheels were trued perfectly. I was expecting to have to take them in and have them trued at a local bike shop, as I've had to do with all my past bike purchases, but in this case they were already in great shape. For the money, this is an awesome bike.

  3. My wife and I ride a Cannondale Tandem MTB but only green rated trails thus far as we have no suspension fork or rear suspension. Plus, it seems that we have lower clearance as we can have pedal strikes or hit chainrings if we go over a sharp high point on the trail. Any suggestions?

  4. Wow! Thank you so much for this short film! 😍 We made a tandem challenge some weeks ago – the challenge was, that a blind man and a man with a wheelchair ride the bike. That worked out so well – but it wasn't downhill. 😂
