I’ve had this bike for close to 20 years and think it’s close to a 30 year old bike, but it’s been ridden very little and sitting in my garage for the last few years as I’m more of a runner. It’s been ridden for some sprint triathlons and that’s about it, but as I consider getting more into road cycling is this bike worth fixing up with new components? And will a local bike shop be the place to do that? I have very little knowledge about bikes other than knowing how to fix a flat tire so any help would be appreciated. It’s been a fun bike to ride when I have ridden it

Definitely worth fixing and riding.
If you can get it as you want under $500 max then yes.
The only thing I’d change is the shifters, and only for the ergonomics. So yes, fix it up!
If everything works, I wouldn’t change a thing. Turn that post around, slap on a saddle, pedals, replace those missing brake pads, and rip it!
Definitely worth fixing. As you’ll see in a few years most avid runners become cyclists.
Shimano 600 tri-color? I’d probably just clean it up and ride. What’s up with the non-drive side pedal hole on that crank? I’m riding centuries on my old 10 speed carbon bike. Probably replace the seat post to better fit a normal riding style, not so forward over the bars and give it a try for a few months.
