Hey guys,
I've been offered a bike by a family member, but due to the distance I would need to travel to pick it up I'm trying to gather what info I can first. Unfortunately so far my searches have come up short bar a very old listing on a local marketplace.
At the moment only have a single photo of the frame + one of the rear derailleur and casset. Per the title, it's an older Avanti Montari and has X-One written on the seat tube. I'm told it's a medium frame, but unfortunately cant seem to dig up any actual dimensions online.
Drivetrain wise it's a Shimano deore LX 9 speed, which would theoretically be an upgrade to my current (much newer) giant ATX 27.5 which has a 7 speed Shimano Acera freewheel. I would hazard a guess that the front shocks are flogged, but currently I'm only doing some light trail riding/commuting and believe that fork has a shock lockout.
I'm told it rides and shifts (has been in a shed for at least 10 years) but would obviously need a good clean and service. I'd love to tinker and try to restore it, but without knowing any specs I'm hesitant to make the journey. Any info is appreciated 🙂

I’m not an expert on MTBs but it’s not a particularly good bike. Of course, you can always put new consumables on it, redo the shocks, and ride it. If you get it for free, it might be worth it if the distance to travel isn’t too far, otherwise it’d be cheaper to spend a few bucks on something locally. I wouldn’t talk about “restoring” it though as if it was worth putting it into its original condition. Just make it rideable if you want to ride it.
I’d wager your Giant is a better overall bike though.
