Hello everyone. My girlfriend and I are planning to do a 3-4 months tour next spring/summer (May-August). We want to start from Hamburg and then follow the baltic sea through Poland, around Kaliningrad, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, ferry to Finland, Ă…land, Sweden, Norway and finally Denmark, where we end the trip.
I wanted to ask some questions to more experienced riders who have done similar routes.
– Is it wise to plan food and especially water a couple of days in advance because some places are not very populated. Or are there always grocery stores?
– In your experience, when do you buy a ferry ticket? At the ferry or several days ahead?
– Any recomendation for payment types? Debit/Credit or NeoBanks?
– Route recommendations from central sweden (Grisslehamn) to Bergen
Other general recommendations are welcome too.

Thank you all. I am looking forward to read your advice.

  1. I wish you the best trip! I Haven’t been in that region but been touring quite a bit and take lots of ferries in England, ireland, france, holland Spain and Germany

I’ve almost always gotten a place with booking a day in advance or just riding up to the place. Even when tickets online were sold out. A bike or two will almost always fit, especially on a car ferry. On a trip that long I hope you’ll be do flexible, that even if you miss a ferry you will just wait for the next, even if it’s the next day. Happened to me once and it was a good thing to learn to accept that it was out of m y hand ( I’m an overplaner)

Supermarkets for the next one or two days I would always research at a supermarket stop, to see if I could just buy what I needed that day. But I would always ask fellow tourers as well.

I highly recommend a light high calorie and protein emergency food like a can of tuna and some snickers ( awful combination i kniw) that just rides with you in the bags in areas where food could be scarce, As well as a Waterfilter. I never used mine in 3 months, but it helped me massively to relax.

So I hope this was helpful even if you didn’t ask for that specifically
