Hi y'all,
I've recently started this build on an old Novara Ponderosa frame. I've attached a 10 speed deore rear derailleur (long-cage) for my 11-42t cassette. I've attached the chain, and adjusted the derailleur based on the park tool explainer which has worked for me previously.
Ok so here's what's going on:
I set the H limit screw just right, and as I go to shift into bigger gears on the cassette, I have to keep adding tension to go higher and higher. By the time I've made it to the second biggest gear, the barrel adjuster is almost at it's limit. And due to all the tension I've added, it now won't shift back into the smallest 2 or 3 gears. I've checked the L-limit screw and no contact is being made. Is my housing wrong? I added length but still get the same result. Perhaps there are issues with the new derailleur matching up to the older frame? The B limit screw gap looks roughly right. Any help is appreciated for this noobie.
Thank you!!!

What shifter are you using?
First off, the blue housing is waaaayyt too long. You want it to be as short as possible with about 2cm extra so it holds tension. Second, is it actual shift housing? If it is brake housing it may be compressing and that is where you are loosing the cable length. Also what shifters are you using?
Have you tried adjusting the b-tension? RD looks very close to the cassette in the picture.
Thank you for the instant responses! It sounds like the issue are my tiagra shifters! Guess I can’t complain, now I have to upgrade to Deore…
