I've been looking for the best way to carry my cat and she is elderly so I want to reduce the bumpiness for her, decided against putting her on anything connected to the bike for this reason, I'd rather keep her on my body so she's more comfortable but she's too big for the cat backpack and doesnt like carriers.
I was considering swaddling her in a sling like this one, which frees up my trailer for other stuff and I could still potentially wear my backpack or put it in the front cargo bag.

I think my goal is to have her be the only thing on my body and the rest of my stuff can just go on the bike since I'm trying to plan a camping trip.
She is good with car camping its just getting her into a carrier and transport that she struggles with, she rode in my lap in my dad's car for eight hours last week and was fine the whole time but I need to be able to get her around more easily myself and I only have a bike.

Seems like a great way to get clawed in the face. Leave the cat at home. It’ll be happier.

  2. I suggest at the very least a claw proof between cat and belly

I am reminded though of a story told in my family about my mother. She used her bicycle to get everywhere and had a great love for, and affinity with, cats..

One day she brought two young cats to the vet, for vaccines or check up I don’t know.

But she rode her bike, a cat sitting on each shoulder.

Someone asked her if she wasn’t afraid the cars would be scared and jump of. Her answer was a question “Why would they do that?” Neither she nor the cats had considered the option and the cats travelled without incident.

Now this was in the 1940’s after the German occupation was over and there was a limited amount of car traffic.

Get a hard front basket pet carrier, preferably the enclosed ones she will be able to see around, you can keep a eye on her, attach a harness and leash to it yes it will be slightly bumpy for the her, but far more safe. Though if you have a front suspension fork, it will be less bumpy.

Even if the bike fall down or ypu get into a accident the worse that will happen is her getting a bit shaken, but if you wear her and get into a accident the chance of her getting crushed by you or whatever hit you, is far more likely, and then there is the risk she runs off and escape. She may also cause an accident by trying to jump out of the sling and/or running on the street.

If she is pretty big, she may not like most cat carriers, because she can’t see or move comfortably. A lot of cat products aren’t built for large cats or even adult cats of average size.

I have nothing to contribute other than you’re rad and if I saw you out riding with your cat strapped to the front of you, it would make my day

    Cheers
