A number of sustainable travel improvements along the A4174 ring road have been completed, with over 4km of improved cycle and footway paths between Wick Wick roundabout and Coldharbour Lane.
The improvements were funded by the Department for Transport, administered by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and delivered by South Gloucestershire Council.

Completing upgrades to major
bits of network is always going to have quite a big impact on drivers.
So, we want to say a big thank you for your patience while we got this work done.
The good news is we’ve completed the work on the active travel pathway.
The next stage is we’re just going to do a bit of resurfacing on the road all the way
along from the Willy Wicket roundabout up to UWE. But the good news is we’re getting close to
finishing on this section so everyone will be able to start moving around much more easily.
It’s going to give people more choice about how they want to get about South Gloucestershire.
It’s really impressive to be here today. We’ve got these fantastic new green bike
lanes all across South Gloucestershire. They’re really wide which means that we can
have new cyclists, young kids traveling safely. The segregation I think is
really really important as well. I was just with my dad who – I won’t
reveal his age – but he told me that this is on his regular cycle route and he’s
been using that and feels really, really safe. The route’s a lot safer now.
It was quite narrow in parts. There were some pinch points and now the route
is a lot wider, so there’s much more space. It’s a route I use an awful lot and it’s fantastic
to have a cycle route that’s being invested in. It’s encouraging people to travel actively.
It’s just another part of our infrastructure that we’re delivering across the whole region.
We are really committed to active travel. The government knows we’re really committed to
active travel and this funding has been used really, really well, I think, by South Glos to
get people moving safely all around the region.
