  1. I wouldn’t. Too easy to fuck up the threads and they’re so small they’re really difficult to chase. They sell different sizes if you need a shorter length, but they look fine.

  2. No need to trim them until they stick into the rim tape, or you run out of threads when tightening them. Be careful.

  3. Are you sure they are a problem? Do they really poke through your rim strip?

    If they really are a problem, my first choice would be to replace the spokes on that side with 2 mm shorter.

    That is more than I would like to see protruding, meaning the nipple is bottoming out on the spoke. When this happens more than a thread or two it tends to cause windup, and false tension reading.

    Trimming a protruding spoke is an outdated hack from single wall rim days and has its place when dealing with old beat up single wall steel rims and the like. I won’t endorse for anything but that.

    If this is a new build I would check that lacing is correct, or maybe this one was accidentally long. Check that there isn’t a spoke that isn’t too short.

    Uneven tension can also cause this, if you have excessive tension on this one spoke due to an imbalance . This is not a good situation to be in. Sometimes if it’s a dented/bent rim that’s what it will be until the wheel or rim replaced. When this happens on a new build it’s often because of a severe tension imbalance

    If the cause is not incorrect lacing or fixable tension issue. I would replace the spoke and the nipple, with shorter spoke because you crushed some of the threads in the nipple over threading it.

    I mean how could you re-thread the spoke? by far only way is to buy a automatic spoke rolling tool machine.

    Did you build these wheels yourself? Normally the offset drill pattern would be thread opposite of what I think I am seeing here.

    The left long threaded spoke looks be angling inwards to the right side flange, and usually it would angle outwards. Maybe I am missing something?

    This looks fine as-is. The protruding spokes won’t come close to your rim strip or tape and aren’t a concern.

    The only consideration would be if the nipple will “bottom out” on the spoke threads when trueing this wheel in the future. As long as there are a few thread turns visible on the hub side, run this as-is and ride on!

    The work to trim these (with a dremel?) will be tedious, risky to the inner rim wall and spoke nipple flares, and ultimately pointless. Don’t do it.
