  1. I don’t think its “normal” for any tire to do this, but my wife’s Gravelking SS+ tires did the same thing. Tan sidewall as well. That was ~3 months ago and it hasn’t become an issue yet. She rides about 80km per week.

  2. I got exactly 5 months out of mine before they gave like that. Fortunately my LBS replaced them on the grounds that the tread wasn’t worn completely out.

  3. I have a set of 45mm tanwall X1 tlr tires that have done the same thing in similar a timeframe

  4. unfortunately this is becoming a bit too common on these gravel kings

likely a combination of a few things: tire sat on shelf for long time before being sold then was used with low psi

I’ve been trying to spread the anti-GK gospel for years, this is one of the reasons why.

  6. The tan wall tires are trash, I got some x1 and they didn’t last more than 80 miles before the walls cracked. They did warranty them for me but I’m done with gravelkings since I have yet to make it more than 400 miles on any of their tires before issues start

  7. I have tan wall, 650bx48s that have seen a whole year of use and they haven’t done that. They barely even look warn. I’ve even run them at super low pressures and haven’t had an issue

I’m currently running tan sidewall GKs and as far as I can see, they haven’t done this. However, they have not proven great on the puncture-resistance front – I think I’m going to replace them with Schwalbe ONE Plus with the Addix puncture protection, the same type as Marathon Plus have. I ran Durano Pluses for years without ever having a problem or a puncture.

  9. I got flamed on here a couple months back for posting this exact same issue with my tanwalls. At least you’re getting some legit responses.

I ended up contacting Panaracer customer service, and they said this issue is purely cosmetic and the tires are safe to keep riding on but they offered to replace the set anyway. I love my X1’s but never had this issue with any other tire I’ve owned.
