Hello. Got my first Brompton and been riding it for about a half a year. Love it. I have 6 bikes and this is one of my favorites. Was switching things over to wax and cleaning things up where I found a few issues.

  1. One of the fly wheels on the rear tensioner doesn’t spin very well. It is the one that is right up next to the rear derailer. Is this suppose to be this way? It seems like there is very little room for it to spin freely.

  2. Getting a mark on my front fork. I assume it’s from folding. Do you recommend tape or such or am I folding it wrong somehow?

  3. I cannot for the heck of me figure out how to get my rear fender to not rub a little on my back tire. The clearance is like almost zero, but the rack has only one mounting position, I don’t see how to adjust it much more.

Thank you for any help!

The jockey wheels are replaceable if it’s stiff you can get it replaced it’s not expensive.

Mark on the fork is on the right hand leg? That’s not due to folding you probably scraped something you can get touch up paint and also some helicopter tape to protect it.

Sounds like one of your mud guard stays is bent you can either get a replacement or bend back the one you have which should solve your rubbing issue.

  2. Brompton has a fairly simple drive train. when was the last time you gave your bike a deep clean? try that first, you’ll be surprised how nice a used bike can be when they are properly cleaned.

    1. what is roughly travel distances / mileage of the bike? this factor can contribute to parts wear, misalignment, gunk jams up the little wheels etc.

    2. either wrong fold sequence or simply rub during storage? u can cover up the scratch with nail polish or just let it be. it is a used bike. it is normal to look ‘used’.

    3. checked the mudguard stay / bracket stick? they hold the mudguard and if they get bent, it kinda crook up the mudguard position a bit. just bend it straight again
