Going to pick up a new bike this winter and am torn between the two. This will be ridden mostly shorter climb laps at the local, shuttle, and a little bike park here and there.

I have a long travel Orbea Wild which I love, but have never ridden a propain (and won’t be able to try one out as no local shops sell them).

Price isn’t really an issue, just looking for anyone’s experience (mostly on the Orbea). Build will be similar for both.

  1. Rallon all day, but bare in mind that I’m more prone to big pedal days. The 26 should allow you to run a dual crown and a longer stroke on the shock for a DH setup as well though, so it may be more modular if you don’t mind the faff of multiple riding configurations.

  2. I would pick the Orbea i have the Spindrift 5 CF and it’s very good but if I would buy now I would probably choose Orbea

  3. I certainly wouldn’t be buying a bike based on r/MTB popularity. These threads devolve fairly quickly into fanboy jerk circles.

Demo both, weigh their pros and cons against how you do/will ride, read/watch reviews from trusted sources, and then decide.

The Spindrift climbs incredibly well for a bike of that category. I have no complaints with mine so far.

I have not ridden the new Rallon yet and wouldn’t consider it at the current price point.

Rallon NEEDS the climb switch or live valve shock as the suspension is designed for less pedal kickback but efficiency was mostly left out. You can also use a longer dropper.

If I could afford the Rallon I would. But the spindrift is much more in my price range

  7. Don’t have much experience but got to demo a spindrift for a few laps at a shuttle day and absolutely loved it compared to my 2018 stumpjumper, felt way better than that and quieter too. Made me pull trig on ekano yesterday.

  8. Rode a spindrift once and disliked it. Suspension is harsh on repeated hits, and the seat tube was way too tall. Even with the dropper slammed the seat was up my ass the whole ride. I would pick the orbea in an instant
