i’ve been riding an aluminum single speed in nyc for the past 10 or so years, and it’s the only bike i’ve owned in my adult life. recently got a bigger apartment and wanted to get something to ride in the winter and make climbing hills with cargo easier. this sub has been a great inspiration.
bought an overpriced gt ($240 for one that was rideable. beggars can’t be choosers as I don’t have a car to pick a cheap one up from jersey or long island. almost got a timberline for $100 but the seller slept through our meetup…) and have been slowly replacing things. it’s feeling a lot safer and more fun now that I added the wide bars, v-brakes, and replaced the kinda broken friction shifters with indexed ones. the whole time I was working on it, it felt like such a mistake and a waste of money, but now that all the problem areas have been addressed, it’s turned from a beater into my main bike.
gonna cut a few inches off the bars, as I have to pick it up to get it through my front door. and maybe add fenders and a kickstand before the snow starts. last pic is the original.

Looks class man, such cool frames and solid too, ive got 5 at the moment but gonna sell off some of the flock
Get a pipe cutter on amazon, like 10 bucks and is so useful for trimming handlebars/steerer tubes down, nice straight cuts too, just run a file over gently to deburr it
