🏑 About Le Somail & the Canal du Midi

Le Somail is one of the most picturesque stops along the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the 17th century to link the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. This charming hamlet is known for its stone bridge, historic inns, antique bookshops, and vibrant summer evenings where visitors enjoy the unique atmosphere by the water.
The surrounding Minervois region is famous for its vineyards, producing some of the best wines of the Languedoc. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings, boat trips along the canal, cycling between villages, and exploring the cultural treasures of the Aude, from medieval Carcassonne to the Mediterranean coast.

Every single thing you see in this house uh other than the house itself got renovated. In fact, I think there’s only one electrical switch that remained according to something. So anyway, uh you’ll notice that uh the house is beautifully open plan, but it wasn’t this way before. There was a great big corridor in the middle which was very nice, but took up the whole space of the house. So, we knocked out all the walls and we thought we were knocking out walls that weren’t loadbearing because they certainly didn’t look it. But then we found out that they were loadbearing a little bit. Anyway, so we’ve got some dirty great beams in here, great big 20 cm beams. And then we got some 10 cm beams this side. And then to hold the whole place up, we’ve got behind these uh what looks like wooden uh posts, there’s actually steel and that’s holding the place up. So the place is actually um quite high tech underneath. Uh, and you’ll notice actually, well, you probably I don’t know whether you can notice on the video, but the ceiling is all it’s a bit wonky and lots of different there are lots of different uh uh levels and that’s because behind the facade of the French dream uh is pretty high-tech and all the plumbing works and all the electrics work and you know like Uh-huh.
