The video says it all. Spectacular. Thanks Joshua Levine for the idea and making this possible for me. A great shame you couldn’t make it this year, I really hope you get another chance. I did the race with Antti Riikonen and Daniel Morales. We set off unprepared for the huge distances in Iceland, and ended up riding 165km, fully loaded with camping gear, against a relentless headwind and drizzle the day before! The roads to the start in hvolsvöllur were either extreme gravel horse tracks or expressways with scarily fast traffic. I can honestly say the ride before the race was more challenging! We didn’t even arrive at our hostel until past 10pm and the restaurant was closed so the only food we had was one pack of instant pasta! We did get a couple of beers though at the bar C: Worth every penny of the 1700 yen a pint price tag! Bed was a bunk in a room of 8, up a dangerous ladder with no handles. I was so knackered I slept without covers as I didn’t want to go back down to get them! Woke up cold so had to put on my down jacket! In the morning my Garmin watch said my body battery was still at 5%. My puffed up tired face at he start of the video says it all. I was seriously worried we’d even be able to finish. Anyway, here it is in all it’s splendour, what must be one of the most beautiful races in the World. For some reason the clips arrived in iMovie all mixed up so some may not be in the correct order. Oh well, if you can tell, let me know. Here we are!

  1. Probably the best Rift video on YouTube. Fantastic footage! This is the recap we wanted to see before attending, but alas it didn’t exist until now. Thankfully we didn’t wait for a good video to attend, and enjoyed the same great weather as you (I started right behind you). Thanks for sharing!

  2. It looks like a great adventure and video. It was a pleasure to watch it. Nice riding skill by the way! It looks like you tried to not finish this race on foot 🙂 What Oakley glasses are you wearing?
