Hello! I'm a bit of a newb. I'm working on a project and I'm installing cantilever brakes on an old steel fork & frame. I can't figure out why this brake won't line up properly. I've tried to switch the tension springs around, tried inverting them and moved them front to back. It has totally eluded me. Please help me see what I can't see. Thank you.

Are they both located in the same hole near the posts? Can you show the posts without the brakes?
Yes they are.
The springs should be trying to push the brakes apart, It looks like the one on the left of the photo is being pushed into the one on the right?
Park tool website is a great resource. Look up canti brake adjustment. Give great step by step instructions.
where’s the cable?
Is the collar cracked? Spring stud should be in SSW position (looking at it from the back.)
