[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Hello and welcome to Anacey. In this video, we’ll be exploring the French city nestled in the Alps. [Music] This city is known for its crystal clearar waters and medieval architecture, drawing around 3 million visitors a year. It sits next to Lake Anacey and is overlooked by Alpine Mountains. In fact, it’s often nicknamed the pearl of the French Alps. I’ll show you the heart of the old town, its hidden corners, and the museums and churches that make Anacey unforgettable. We begin along the turquoise river too, heading towards the iconic Perier Bridge. From here we can see the pale deil or palace of the island. The most iconic building in the old town. It’s actually purged on a small rocky island. This building has served many roles over time. It’s been a prison, courthouse, and an administrative center to the city. Today, it hosts exhibitions on the architecture and heritage of Hennessy. But most of all, it’s a chance to step through intricate medieval rooms and chambers. [Music] [Music] From the Rudela Republic Bridge, you can see the we and controls that characterize the waterways here. The city’s elaborate water management system is why Anacey is also known as the Venice of the Alps. There are also multiple canals such as this one. These back streets are quieter but offer plenty of options to grab a drink or enjoy a meal. And while exploring these passages, you might notice a quirky statue called Lazo. You can let me know in the comments what you think it represents. [Music] Anise story began 5,000 years ago as a Neolithic fishing village. The Romans settled here in 50 BC, but the old town began to take shape in the 12th century. [Music] [Music] We arrive at the NRAAM square and here stands NRAAM dele a church with a rich history. It was originally founded in the 14th century by the counts of Geneva and later served as their burial place. Inside you’ll see Gothic details, stained glass, altars, and carvings. The building you see today was largely rebuilt in the mid 19th century after the original was destroyed during the French Revolution. [Music] [Music] Back outside, we head upward towards Anacey Castle. On the way, we’re rewarded with these sweeping city rooftop views. [Music] We arrive at the castle, which dominates the old town from its hillside perch. [Music] It was once the residence of the counts of Geneva, but after centuries of decline, it was bought by the town of Anacey, carefully restored and transformed into a museum. One of the biggest draws inside is the view. [Music] Windows and terraces frame the rooftops, lake, and mountains. [Music] The castle itself has exhibitions of regional art. There’s also a big stuffed bear and a gallery section with furniture and historical artifacts. [Music] Leaving the castle, we walk along the ramparts, which offer some of the best vantage points of the lake and the old town below. [Music] Descending into the main streets again, we re-enter the lively streets of Anacey. [Music] Next stop is Cathedral San Pierre. Tucked away in the old town. It was built in the 16th century for the Franciscan order and later became the cathedral when Anacey rose in importance as a religious center. [Music] Inside you’ll find a mix of Gothic and Renaissance details with side chapels decorated in Barack style. [Music] Stepping back out, we walk along the north side of Leu, past the island palace and next to bars and restaurants through narrow streets. This is a relatively quiet spot to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat. [Music] Although the old town is the most visited part of Anacey, it isn’t just for tourists. People still live in these pastel colored houses, often above the shops and cafes. [Music] The busiest part of the old town centers around the network of narrow streets running parallel to the river on the southern edge. Here you’ll see the charming clock tower that leads into Slair Square. Around here you’ll find the highest concentration of shops, cafes, and restaurants. This strip is one of the busiest in the old town. Full of energy and a major draw for visitors. The smell of melted cheese and fondue is everywhere here and can become overwhelming after a few days. We ended up near the Perrier Arch. [Music] This lakeside stretch gives you open views of Lake Anacey, its turquoise water, and the alpine mountains that rise dramatically above the city. [Music] You eventually get to the lake beach. Here, people dip their toes, lounge by the water, or go for a swim. The water is fresh, clear, and the mountain air is glorious. [Music] [Music] Lake Anacey is among Europe’s cleanest lakes thanks to strict environmental controls. It’s of glacial origin fed by mountain streams and is a popular spot for sailing, paddle boarding, and other water sports. [Music] Next we reach the Vaset Canal, a short waterway linking the lake to the river [Music] and Pont Zamore or the lover’s bridge is packed with visitors. [Music] We’re now climbing up to the basilica which is a little bit further away from the center of an [Music] steps to the basilica are steep but manageable. We’re rewarded with bells just as we arrive. [Music] The Basilica sits high above Hennessy. Built in the early 20th century between 1909 and 1930, it’s dedicated to the founders of the Order of the Visitation, a Roman Catholic religious order of enclosed nuns, founded in 1610. Inside it’s also very special, majestic and grand with colorful stained glass and a contemporary feel. [Music] Outside the basilica is a small shop run by nuns selling holy books and rosaries. [Music] Last up is a chance to visit the Sunday market. The city is truly buzzing with everything on offer. [Music] It seems to cover the entirety of the old town and is well worth a visit, though incredibly packed. We decide to make an exit and look for a bite to eat. We say goodbye to Anacey by enjoying a snack at Bonan Bonbang, a charming cafe restaurant. [Music] If you’ve enjoyed this city tour, hit like, subscribe, and stay tuned. I have other tours in France, and more are on the way. Till next time.
