Today, we are in the village of Oulton to complete a 4.4 Mile circular walk. We will take in Oulton Marshes and Woods Meadow, starting / finishing at St. Michael’s Church Car Park. Church Lane, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, Suffolk NR32 3JP.
From the car park we head towards the gate of the church. After passing the church gate we follow the Angles Way sign along the footpath. At the T-Junction we turn left (leaving The Angles Way that goes right) and follow Fisher Row. We continue along this path all the way to Oulton Dyke, crossing the railway line along the way. At the dyke the footpath veers right and we follow the path alongside the dyke. We continue along this path, passing Dutch Tea Gardens free moorings. We take the 2nd right turn off this path and head towards Gravel Dam crossing the railway line. We continue along Gravel Dam until we come to a T-Junction.
Here, we turn left back onto Angles Way which we follow until we come out onto the road. We follow Queen’s Highway to the left, which then changes into Holly Hill. We continue along Holly Hill until we come to a crossroads, where we turn right into Wood Lane. After a short while we turn left and into Woods Meadow.
We enter Woods Meadow via a wooden gate and follow the grass footpath along the left hand side. The grass footpath leads us through 3 hedged fields as we make our way to the far side of Woods Meadow. At the end of the 3rd field we turn right walking by an information sign. After passing the sign we take an immediate right and follow the grass path angling across the field and head towards the next field. There are a few different paths back to the far left corner we are facing. When we enter the 3rd field on the way back we encounter a locked ‘Breeding Ground’ gate so we take a left and head around it to arrive back out on Wood Lane leaving Woods Meadow.
Once onto Wood Lane we turn left and follow the road down to the corner. We follow the corner round to the left which becomes Church Lane. We continue along Church Lane until we see Sands Lane on our left. Here, we turn right and follow a footpath all the way back to St. Michael’s Church. It’s then a left turn heading towards the car park.
