So the other day while death scrolling Facebook marketplace in search of another good deal bike. I came across a weathered looking carbon Jamis for sale, asking price was $300. I offered the Seller $250 and surprisingly he accepted. The listing said less than 500 miles used for a couple races no crashes, and it would need a new chain from being rusty. I had to finish work, which was difficult because the bike was also about 60 miles away going the opposite direction from home and being a Friday I knew the traffic back would be absolutely horrendous. When I got there, the bike was a little rougher than expected, but after a close visual inspection, I didn’t see any cracks or Strange spots on the frame and being that I had already lowball him. I paid him the $250 and gladly accepted the brand new pair of Shimano SPD – SL 540 pedals that had never been mounted with the cleats, they complete under seat bag filled with everything to replace a tire and inflate it, with 14 CO2 canisters. The sort of $100 off comes from the fact that Thursday night while celebrating a birthday party with a friend, after a $20 buy in for Domino’s. I walked away with $100 added after I won a couple games.. So the way I see it if I subtract $100 I won since it wasn’t really my money to begin with. I picked up this bike for $150 with probably another hundred dollars worth of peripherals. I must say I spent the better part of Friday night using naval jelly, muriatic acid, degreaser, and a lot of polish and this bike cleaned up spectacular. Turns out all the rust was superficial surface level, and after throwing my seat on it and giving it a thorough tuneup, and lubrication the bike looks amazing with not a single scratch, and the 105 groupset shifts perfectly. The bike was 100% original including the tires so over the next couple months I’ll be swapping out the wheels for some lighter ones along with some new tires, probably source some aero bars to give it a more modern look and that’s about it. According to the catalogue is sold originally for $2300.12 years later I picked it up for 10% of that. The first picture is after it had been gone through and the second picture is the bike as it was posted unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to get some better pictures of the after, but I’ll be adding them shortly. Thanks for reading my long post, see you on the road.
